Blinds & awnings for Camps Bay

Just around the point from Clifton, sharing the same Atlantic-facing flank and the same low, hard afternoon sun — with a beachfront strip, restaurants and a road running past the sand that Clifton doesn't have.

West-facing glass, rebuilt for the view

Camps Bay's houses cascade down from Kloof Road and Theresa Avenue toward the sea, mostly rebuilt from the 1990s onward in concrete, glass and steel to face the Atlantic sunset — replacing the older mid-century cottages that used to line the same slope. Floor-to-ceiling glass, floating concrete forms and multi-storey apartment blocks stacking up near the beachfront strip mean there's more glass to dress here than in a typical suburb, on elevations taking direct, uninterrupted afternoon sun.

The south-easter, and what the Apostles actually block

The Twelve Apostles massif gives Camps Bay some shelter from the south-easter — the same shelter Clifton enjoys on its side of the range — but that shelter has limits. Exposed decks, terraces and upper-storey windows still feel it, particularly through the November-to-March wind season. Anything left outside — a folding-arm awning over a terrace most of all — needs a genuine wind rating and, ideally, a sensor that retracts it before the gust arrives rather than after.

Salt, UV, and a beachfront that never really quiets down

Summer UV on this stretch of coast runs into the extreme band most of the season, and west-facing glass over open water takes a double hit — direct low sun plus the glare bounced back off the Atlantic. That's the case for stopping the heat outside the glass with external venetian blinds rather than managing it once it's already in the room. Salt off the water corrodes unprotected hardware fast, so we specify powder-coated, seaside-rated aluminium and sealed cassettes on anything mounted outside — and we'll still tell you it wants an occasional fresh-water rinse this close to the sea.
