The collection

Every pane of glass, answered.

Clifton's stands run small and the glazing runs floor to ceiling, so most houses need two or three products working together, not one blind doing everything. Twelve ways to spec it, made to measure for the opening in front of you.

Slide the rail

A bedroom on this slope has to go properly dark, whatever the sunset is doing to the rest of the house.
Built for this glass

Every window on the slope answers to the same ocean

A living-room wall of glass needs the sunset without the four o'clock glare. A bedroom needs proper dark, whatever the deck outside is doing. A stairway-access stand needs a fitting day planned around the walk in. One consultant, one visit, a written answer for each window.

Finished for this coast

The hardware is chosen for the Atlantic, not just the room

Powder-coated, seaside-rated aluminium on anything mounted outside, sealed cassettes rather than open brackets, chain and cord tensioners fitted as standard, and motorised options wherever a corded blind isn't the right answer near a child's room. Even the best hardware wants an occasional fresh-water rinse this close to the water — we say so rather than call anything maintenance-free.

Why Clifton is specified differently

Four beaches, no road to any of them, and glass built to hold a sunset

Clifton's four beaches are reached on foot only — down stairways cut into Kloof Road and Victoria Road above, threading between the granite boulders that divide First from Second, Second from Third, Third from Fourth. The houses follow the same rule. Most stand on the tiny plots first laid out for returning WWI soldiers between the beaches: a scatter of meticulously restored 1920s–30s timber bungalows, some literally built from packing cases, alongside the glass-fronted villas that have replaced most of them, all cascading down the same slope with almost no front garden to spare.

Nearly every one of those houses faces west or south-west, holding the same Atlantic sunset the beaches are known for — which means most of Clifton's glazing takes the lowest, hardest sun of the day, straight on, with a second dose bounced up off the open water. Sitting on the same Atlantic-facing flank as Camps Bay, Clifton is also one of the more sheltered stretches from the south-easter that hammers the False Bay side — real, but relative: exposed decks and upper-storey glass still feel it, and every fitting still gets sealed, salt-rated hardware. The one thing every Clifton measure has in common is the access itself: no vehicle reaches the front door on most stands, so the whole visit — measure, delivery, install — gets planned around the stairs from the first call.

  • Salt-rated, sealed hardware on anything mounted outside
  • Sunscreen and exterior shading specified for west/south-west glass carrying low sun plus reflected sea-glare
  • Stairway-only access on most stands planned into the measure and the install, not discovered on the day
  • Fabric and mechanism kept as slim for the original 1920s–30s bungalow stock as for the glass villas replacing them
How it works

From enquiry to fitted, in four steps

01

Enquire

Tell us the rooms, the products you're considering, and how the house is reached. Two minutes on the chat or the form.

02

Free in-home measure

A consultant makes the walk down to you, measures every opening on site, checks fixing substrate and salt exposure, and brings fabric samples.

03

Written quote

An itemised, per-window quotation with lead times stated upfront — no surprises between what you saw and what you pay. If you want a number to think about first: work on this stretch of coast lands between R1,000 and R7,500 per square metre installed, interior fabric at the low end and wind-rated exterior systems at the high one. Small windows carry a minimum charge, and the exact price follows the measure.

Every piece is manufactured to your measurements and installed cleanly by our own team, stairs and all.

About this service

Measured on the stand, made for the opening

Clifton Blinds is a made-to-measure shading service for Clifton and the seaboard either side of it — Bantry Bay, Fresnaye, Camps Bay and Llandudno. Roller blinds, external venetians, folding-arm awnings and motorised control are all made to the sizes taken at the property, with the hardware specified for how much salt air that particular elevation has to live in. Nothing here is a stock size.

A job runs in one order. You enquire on the chat or the form, and one of our expert consultants will contact you shortly to arrange a free in-home measure. On that visit every opening is measured, the fixing substrate and the salt exposure are checked, and fabric and finish samples are looked at in the light the room actually gets. A written, itemised quote follows with a price against each window, so there is no gap between what you were shown and what you are charged. When it is approved, everything is manufactured to those measurements and installed by our own team.

The details you send are used only to arrange that call-back and quote, and are handled under POPIA.

Questions

Before you enquire

Do you cover Camps Bay, Bantry Bay, Fresnaye and Llandudno as well as Clifton?

Yes — Clifton is our home ground, and we measure and fit across Camps Bay, Bantry Bay, Fresnaye and Llandudno too. If you're just outside those, ask on the enquiry form and we'll confirm.

How do you get equipment down to a house with no road access?

Most Clifton stands are reached only by the public stairways from Victoria Road or Kloof Road above. We plan the measure, the delivery and the install around your specific stand from the first visit — carrying tools and materials in by hand where a vehicle simply can't reach.

Will salt air ruin motorised or exterior blinds?

Cheap hardware corrodes fast this close to the water — pitted brackets and seized chains within a season or two. We specify powder-coated, seaside-rated aluminium and sealed cassettes on anything mounted outside. Even that hardware benefits from an occasional fresh-water rinse — we won't tell you it's maintenance-free.

What actually stops the afternoon glare on west-facing glass?

In order of effect: exterior shading such as external venetians or roller shutters (stops heat at the glass), sunscreen mesh inside (cuts glare and load while keeping the view), and motorisation so it happens on schedule whether you're home or on the beach.

Are your blinds safe for small children?

Every corded or chained blind is fitted with a tensioner as standard. For nurseries and children's rooms we generally recommend wand-tilt, cordless or motorised operation — ask your consultant and it's built into the quote.

What does the free measure and quote actually cost?

Nothing. The measure, the samples, the consultation and the written per-window quote are all free, with no obligation to order.
